Eridge Park Eridge Park is a 6,000 acre private estate on the Kent/Sussex border. The estate has been in the hands of the Nevill family since the Norman conquest and has a rich and fascinating history in its own right. Set in the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Eridge Park is an island of peace and tranquillity in an increasingly stressful world. The centre of the park and the lake itself are scheduled by Natural England as a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its plants, animals and in particular, its dragonflies. Syndicate members have exclusive access to the lake with secure parking and facilities within 100 yards of the water. The fishery is a classic 14 acre estate lake, created in the 17th Century by damming the confluence of two streams. All the water feeding the lake comes from within the estate, issuing from the numerous springs, some of which are tapped by the Estate for the water to be bottled and sold. The continuous flow of these pure, cold springs guarantees us exceptional water quality and excellent oxygen levels, even in the hottest summers. The lake is very rich in natural food and is a superb environment for producing large and healthy carp. In accordance with Natural England’s wishes, the lake had much of it’s original stock of tench removed in March 2000, prior to the introduction of our carp, which supplemented a small number of original fish. The first stocking then took place with 100 fish supplied by Mark Simmonds, which are renowned for their growth rates. Further stocking took place over the next few years as English fish of appropriate quality became available and all have continued thriving to the point where we now boast around 50 thirties, with our first forty being banked in the 2007/8 season. It should be kept in mind that the vast majority of our fish are still under 10 years old, so the potential for the future is remarkable. Membership is limited to 60 experienced carp anglers. Fishing is available on an annual season ticket basis only. There are no day tickets or guest tickets. The price for the 2010/11 season is £550, with a new members joining fee of £50. Given the stunning location and the quality of fishing, this will be an increasingly sought after ticket over the coming years. if you can find a better complex than Eridge Park, grab it with both hands and take out a life membership. |
