FURNACE POND, ON THE ERIDGE ESTATE, NEAR TUNBRIDGE WELLS, KENT

Furnace Pond is located at the top end of the Eridge Estate in the same 6000 acres of prime English countryside as the main lake, but inside the Deer Park, again spring fed as it flows to the main lake below. Many years ago the dam breeched and  left  the pond dry, until 2003 when I  removed the top layers of silt and reshaped it. The pond now stands at 4 acres, the old Monk was removed and a larger spillway installed to ensure a further breech impossible, a drainage system is now in place should we ever need to. The depth ranges from 3ft to 8ft on the dam wall with two large areas left to create under water islands or high spots .The pond has now matured nicely with the old original Oaks and Alder around it.

Broadoak Fisheries was named after the large Oak facing you as you enter the fishery, of which it takes 4 people with arms joined to circle this 500 year old tree. We have installed a new hard base road from the main lake entrance to a car parking area close to Furnace Pond, so the walk is very short, this is a very secure area far away from any traffic and noise. Twenty purpose made swims have been cut with a bark topping amply large enough to support your needs, the entire pond is fenced in as the Wheld Walk passes nearby used by mainly ramblers, the deer run free inside the park and a sighting  becomes the norm.

The stock consists of double figured fish to twenties, with at least 10 upper 20s to 28lbs and a known 30lb plus leather,150 in all, either spawned and brought on by myself, or removed from the main lake from when’s they went when the dam breeched some time ago, now back where they belong, a pool had developed at the inflow end and had supported a varied amount of other fish, mainly Roach and Rudd, Brown Trout, and Perch, no Bream, all have now become part of the biomass. we have introduced some double figured Pike to control this should there be a population increase, which happens on ponds left to mature before filling as we did, they become very rich in insect life, we have planted various reeds and grasses along with what nature supplies on her own, so all told it’s the place to be.

The membership will consist of 40 anglers, on a pre paid season ticket from June 16th to March 14th (the old closed season applies as it is an English Heritage requirement due to the site being a S.S.S.I.  ). The cost is  £200.00  plus a joining fee of £50.00, which cover the cost of the toilet supplied and the maintenance of the road and car park, yes you may find cheaper, but not better, download an application, send it to me.
